I see folks are piling in to Staples, CostCo and Sams Club today happily posting about their new Xoom. I have not read one anyone rooting the device, as there is no IMG file for it yet. So...
Just FYI: The instructions you see, here or around the internet, is for the 3G version only. If you try to root your WiFi xoom with the 3G boot image you will soft "brick" your Xoom. You will be stuck with it in that condition (Unusable) till the image file comes out as stores have ben instructed NOT to take the device back in this condition.
Check back here in a day or two and I am sure "someone" will have done it by then.
